India Inside Out

Welcome to India Inside Out, a newsletter on Indian politics, foreign policy, economics and more. Every week, you’ll find analysis, interviews and links to the most important voices and insightful research on India.

I’m Rohan Venkat, a journalist and researcher who writes about Indian politics, foreign policy and beyond, currently living in Cairo, Egypt.

I’m a Visiting Fellow and Consulting Editor at the Center for the Advanced Study of India, University of Pennsylvania, where I edit India in Transition, a fortnightly publication that presents brief, analytical perspectives on the ongoing transformations in contemporary India based on cutting-edge research in the areas of economy, environment, foreign policy and beyond.

I also am a co-host of the Election Tricycle, a podcast tracking elections in the UK, US and India, in 2024.

I was formerly a Deputy Editor at Scroll.in, an award-winning independent news organisation in India, where I ran the news team, and wrote the Political Fix, a newsletter that examined Indian politics, foreign policy and history every week, while also bringing readers an in-depth, long-form interview with academics, authors, experts and more every week.
